As the prices for Matta's artwork have soared over the past few years there has been the occurrence of more and more suspicious and in many cases outright fakes being offered in the market.   It is not the responsibility nor does this writer possess the authority to determine legitimacy -- rather, it is my intent to warn you of this ever increasing situation. I've seen most of the images below on Ebay during the last few years. Genuine Matta paintings and drawings are typically sold for tens of thousands of dollars in the leading auction houses such as Sotheby's and Christie's. If a piece is being offered with no Certificate of Authenticity (signed by Germana Ferrari-Matta), be extremely wary -- especially if the price seems too good to be true.
